History
We’ve proudly served the community of Mount Pleasant since 2022
Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is the county seat of Henry County, with a population of 9,274 as of the 2020 census. The city was founded in 1835 by Presley Saunders and incorporated in 1842 and 1851. Mount Pleasant has seen gradual population growth.
A key feature of Mount Pleasant is its agricultural heritage, showcased by the annual Midwest Old Thresher’s Reunion. This event, which began in 1950, draws over 100,000 visitors each year to celebrate the region’s farming history through interactive exhibits, including steam engines, antique cars, and even a narrow-gauge railroad. The reunion is a major attraction, ending each year on Labor Day after a five-day weekend.

Education is a central part of the community, with the Mount Pleasant Community School District serving local students. The district operates a high school, middle school, and four elementary schools, providing a solid foundation for the city’s youth.
Overall, Mount Pleasant combines a rich history, strong community values, and a celebration of its agricultural roots. The city’s vibrant mix of cultural events, educational opportunities, and a growing population makes it a distinctive part of southeastern Iowa.
