When Liberty Communications opened our new Fairfield office in November 2025, it marked an important step for our team in southeast Iowa.
We had previously operated from rented space, but as our operations grew, we needed a facility that better fit the work we do. That meant warehouse space for equipment and vehicles, dedicated space for our technicians, and a more welcoming place to greet and serve customers.
We try to work with local contractors and vendors whenever we can. After the initial construction of the building was complete, we turned to Schaus-Vorhies Contracting to serve as general contractor for the finishing work. They coordinated the many details and subcontractors needed to turn the building into a functional office, warehouse and workspace for our team.
They helped bring our new Fairfield home to life.
The connection comes full circle
Not long after the project was completed, our relationship with Schaus-Vorhies took a different turn: they became a Liberty business internet and phone customer.
In a testimonial shared with us this summer, Schaus-Vorhies President Steve Thornton explained that the company was looking for a more affordable internet solution and liked that Liberty’s fiber connection would be installed underground rather than using aerial lines.
Thornton also highlighted the care taken during the fiber installation. He noted that the trenching and boring left no noticeable settling and that today, you can’t tell where the ground had been disturbed.
Most importantly, he shared that the service has been reliable and fast and that when the company experienced a minor issue with its voice-over-IP phone service early on, Liberty addressed it quickly.
Thornton summed up the experience this way:

For us, that’s a pretty meaningful compliment—especially coming from a local company that first helped build a new home for our Fairfield team, and then trusted us to provide internet and phone service for theirs.
